HORACIO PAGANI: THE ARTIST ENGINEER

1999 · Pagani · Horacio Pagani · 6 min

An Argentine who grew up building wooden model cars later crafted some of the most obsessive machines in the world.

THE BEGINNING

Horacio Pagani grew up in Argentina, where he built model cars and, as a student, a small buggy. He is documented as having written to various carmakers seeking work before joining Lamborghini in the 1980s.

THE CRAFT

At Lamborghini he pushed for carbon-fibre construction. In 1992 he founded Pagani Automobili, and in 1999 revealed the Zonda — a car defined by obsessive detail.

The Huayra that followed continued his philosophy: every visible component, even unseen fasteners, finished like a jewel.
